Board of Trustees
Roy Wood (Chairman of Trustees) was formerly UK Director of Military Survey, as a Major General, and then led a survey-related business. He has served as chair of the British Schools Exploring Society, and is currently a Council member of the Royal Geographical Society and is on the management committee of the Mount Everest Foundation. He joined MapAction in a volunteer role in 2005, was later elected a trustee and became Chairman in 2011.
Helen Campbell is an active volunteer with MapAction and has led several overseas projects for the charity. She was elected as a trustee in 2009 after serving as volunteer representative to the board. Helen is a GIS data expert who spent several years on the staff of the British Antarctic Survey and has substantial knowledge of geospatial technologies.
Andrew Douglas-Bate, MBE co-founded MapAction in 1997 and chaired the board of trustees between 2003 and 2011. His 45-year career in industry in Europe, the Middle East, India and the Americas involved working in steel, shipping, commercial security and recruitment. He is a former trustee of the disaster response charity RAPID-UK and serves as a district councillor in Buckinghamshire.
Jonathan, the Earl of Cork and Orrery recently retired as a director of ED&F Man Sugar, the global commodities trading firm. In his earlier career he served for 15 years in the Royal Navy and commanded the submarine HMS Sealion. He is an active voluntary trustee of several charities in the UK.
Christopher Egerton-Warburton worked for Goldman Sachs for 14 years before co-founding an investment banking firm specialising in sustainable projects in Africa and other developing regions. He was the key driver in the establishment of one of the largest charities in the UK that funds immunisation: IFFIm. He is also a trustee of Oval House, an arts education charity.
John Howe CB, OBE is former senior civil servant and was later vice chairman of the UK division of the international electronics group Thales. He joined the MapAction board in 2009 and is also a trustee of an educational charity and a member of the advisory board of Durham Business School.
Bruce Mauleverer, QC has served as a charity trustee on the boards of UNICEF UK, the Jubilee Sailing Trust and the Tavistock Centre. During his legal career he sat as a judge and also specialised in alternative dispute resolution, and became vice chairman of the International Law Association.
Nigel Press is the founder of one of Europe's leading specialist satellite mapping companies and has wide expertise in remote sensing and other geospatial technologies. He has given strong practical support to MapAction since 2002, now serving as Development Director, and became a trustee in 2009.
Flemming S Nielsen has extensive experience in humanitarian policy and practice. He has served with the Danish Government, the UN, as head of emergency operations for the International Red Cross Federation (IFRC), and as Chair of the International Humanitarian Partnership which is an alliance of eight governments supporting disaster response.
Patrick Vigors (Treasurer) joined KPMG to become a chartered accountant (FCA) after an earlier career in the army. He is now an active interim manager specialising in financial roles with startups and turnarounds, and works in finance roles with several other charitable organisations.
Dr Toby Wicks was an active operational volunteer with MapAction for several years before coming an emergencies staff member with UNICEF in the Middle East. He has a PhD in remote sensing and substantial experience in GIS and related technologies. He has also previously worked for the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the UK’s national mapping agency Ordnance Survey.
Victoria White joined MapAction as a volunteer in 2002 and has deployed to natural disaster and post-conflict emergencies and capacity building missions with the charity. She works in the GIS industry and has substantial experience in geospatial consulting and project management, business development and marketing.
Chief Executive
Nigel Woof joined MapAction in 2003 as an operational volunteer. He later joined the staff team and was appointed chief executive in 2009. He has deployed on numerous humanitarian missions in Africa, Asia and the Americas. His career has encompassed the Army, general management in business, and environmental consulting. He has MBA and MSc degrees and is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
