A team of four volunteers from MapAction joined the international relief effort in the devastating floods in southern Mexico, in November 2007. In the flooded city of Villahermosa in Tabasco province, more than 80,000 people took refuge in schools and churches. This placed them at risk from diseases such as dengue fever and cholera. The MapAction team departed for Mexico while another team from the charity was completing its mission in the Dominican Republic.
MapAction's Operations Director, Nigel Woof, commented: "This is our fourth emergency mission in as many months. This year, storms and flooding have caused a huge amount of suffering and economic damage across Central America and the Caribbean, Africa and south Asia."
