MapAction to present to GIS professionals

gis_for_everyday_life_110x110More than 2,000 GIS professionals are expected to hear MapAction present on its work in disaster response at an international conference in October. The GIS software business ESRI is holding its Europe, Middle East and Africa in London. ESRI UK donates its software , and provides training facilities, to MapAction’s volunteer team.

The conference theme is ‘GIS for Everyday Life’. MapAction’s Director David Spackman commented: “For most people in the developed world disasters are not, thankfully, part of everyday life. But in many regions of the globe natural disasters regularly cause misery and set back development progress. At the conference MapAction will show how GIS is proving a force for good in relieving suffering and helping people to recover their everyday lives as quickly as possible in the aftermath of a disaster.’

The conference will be held on 28-30 October in London. The conference website is at www.gisforeverydaylife.com.
