How to Support MapAction's Work

MapAction's goal is to make sure that vital aid reaches the people who most need it after shattering disasters.

altOur maps are much more than just navigation tools. They show relief agencies the locations where people are in greatest need, and create a shared operational picture of the overall response.

Since 2004 MapAction has worked in the world's most shocking disasters including the Asian tsunami and the Kashmir earthquake, as well as in many emergencies that never make it into the international news yet bring misery to hundreds of thousands of people. Our volunteers have played a vital role in saving lives and helping to bring hope quickly to shattered communities. Please help us to maintain this unique and vital service.

How can you help?

As a volunteer-based charity we deliver a big impact for a low cost. But we need funds to equip, train and deploy our volunteers (who donate their time free of charge) when disaster strikes. We do not receive funding from the large public appeals.

Give online using the Charities Aid Foundation secure donation facility. Using the Gift Aid scheme the taxman will then add 20% to your donation if you are a UK taxpayer! You can also give in Euros, US dollars and several other currencies.

Or, please contact our Chief Executive Nigel Woof via our Contact Us page for more information or to send a donation by whichever means you prefer.

We are very grateful to the individuals and organisations who already support our work.

Thinking about volunteering?

We receive many enquiries every month from people who want to help in a practical way with our work. We have now completed our volunteer selection process for January 2010 and unfortunately we are unable to consider further applications until the next round which will most likely begin in late 2010. If you would like to register your interest in advance of that please email your CV to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Please note that we are ONLY able to accept applications from potential volunteers who live in the countries/regions where out three teams are based (UK, Germany and Caribbean). This is because our operational model require regular monthly practical training for our specialised and demanding role. Also, because it takes time and resources to train a team member, we do not recruit volunteers for specific emergencies or projects.

We're sorry that we have to turn down offers from many motivated and skilled GIS people who want to help in our work, but our organisational capacity is obviously finite.
