Anne Frankland was fully briefed at Heathrow before her departure yesterday and arrived safely on time today, Sunday.
On arrival in Yogyakarta Anne was met at the airport by a driver from
the UN and after quickly checking into the hotel met up with the UN
Team in the UN Coordination Centre. The journey went as planned and
although her rucksack went astray somewhere, it has now been delivered
to her hotel room.
The UNDAC Team are in the throws of setting up shop having just moved
out of the Government Building into more suitable accommodation close
by. There is no internet connection at the moment and Anne is having
some difficulty with our RBGAN satellite system, but the team should be
in a position to begin generating maps tomorrow.
There is a Government Planning Department and they apparently have some
GIS capability. Anne and the UN Team aim to investigate the potential
of working with them.
Alex will be flying out tommorow and together they will boost the UN
team and begin producing the maps to support the humanitarian aid
effort.
